How to Make Meatloaf

    Meatloaf is the ultimate American comfort food, evoking memories of childhood dinners with every tasty bite. The cold months of winter are a great time to make this moist and hearty meatloaf recipe that is as delicious as it is budget-friendly.

    You will need:

    • 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
    • 1 small, chopped onion
    • 1 egg
    • 1 cup milk
    • 1 cup seasoned bread crumbs
    • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • ¼ teaspoon pepper
    • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
    • 1 tablespoon mustard
    • 1/3 cup ketchup

    1. Preheat oven to 350 F.

    2. Combine ground beef, egg, onion, milk, Worcestershire sauce and bread crumbs in a large bowl.

    3. Mix in salt and pepper, and transfer to a greased loaf pan.

    4. Mix together brown sugar, ketchup and mustard. Pour over meat loaf mixture.

    5. Bake uncovered for 1 to 1 ½ hours, or until center is no longer pink. Internal temperature should reach 160 F.

    6. Remove from oven, and let sit 15 minutes before serving.

    Tips:

    • Use an instant-read thermometer to ensure your meat loaf is completely cooked.
    • Experiment with additions such as oregano, sage, minced garlic and shredded cheddar cheese.
    • Slice leftovers for sandwiches.
